U14 Team Jets face tough opposition at Seeding Tournament

29/10/2017

Under 14 Team Jets travelled to Paignton for their seeding tournament today. They faced some tough opposition with Team Bath winning all their matches and by some large margins.

The squad never gave up however and after loosing against Exeter by one goal and loosing to Lawn by 2 goals, they were left waiting on for the results of the last games to see if they would make it to play offs. Poole A were automatically through to Division One as unbeaten winners of the group. Sadly it was not to be but the season ahead promises to be exciting as the teams play in Division 2 of the Under 14 Regional League. We wish them every success as they play their first matches against Team Bath (who they beat at Seedings) and Hucclecote Flames

Jets perform against Hertford Hornets despite loosing

29/10/2017

Jets were beaten 48-36 today after travelling to play Hertford Hornets. Despite a slow start, the team had a great recovery which has given their coach Linda Andrews the belief that it will be a different story at Fort Regent in February.

‘OK, we lost by 12, but if you saw the play you would accept that we were as good as them,’ said Andrews.
‘The first quarter [15-7] was our undoing. We got to grips with it in the second quarter. It was so positive and we had 19 attempts on goal, which is the best we’ve had this season. I thought we were on a roll and we won the third by one goal, but the clock ran down too quickly. With a home crowd behind us next time it will be an interesting game.’

Squad: Emily Green, Becca Forrest, Tallula Norman, Libby Rothwell, Jacy Brown, Nicole Goddard, Jenna Meredith, Ebony Troy and Josie Le Masurier

Jets gain bonus points against Billericay

15/10/2017

Team Jets started strongly in their away game against Billericay today and were leading by one goal at the end of the first half. Jets in fact took an early 3 goal led managing to score off Billericay's first centre with a fantastic display from the defence made up of Lauren Devine, Jenna Meredith and Nicole Goddard.

With Goddard forced off injured, Ebony Troy came in a GD with Meredith taking WD. This proved to be another strong combination as Jets drew level at 16 all and entered the half time break a goal up. But a rocky 3rd quarter where the Jets lost composure under increased pressure from Billericay meant there was a lot to do in the final 15 minutes. Despite a fantastic performance from POM Becca Forrest who linked well with Centre Libby Rothwell, Jets just couldn't gain the upper hand.

‘The extra bonus point was so well deserved,’ said coach Linda Andrews. ‘But it was frustrating at the same time as we were close to a win. Self-belief, clear thinking and trust in one another will be essential to enable us to get over the line in the future.’

U16 Team Jets have a tough day at Seedings

15/10/2017

Under 16 Team Jets started off their day at the Seeding tournament strongly with a  good win against St Agnes. With lots to build on and with St Agnes having beaten their next opposition, Lawn, spirits were high but sadly Jets struggled to break down some great attacking play by Lawn and also failed to consistently convert their chances.

With the lunch break looming it was a tough wait for their third game while other group results didn't always go the way expected as each team out played each other! Only Team Bath were riding high with an unbeaten record for the day, and therefore moving straight through to DIvision One. A disjointed game against Exeter was 3rd up, with many serious injuries to the oppostion making for a stop start game and whilst the Jets defence were doing a fantastic job of gaining possession of the ball again converting was a problem. The pressure and realisation of a must win game was all too much once Jets faced Team Bath and sadly the score does not reflect the success within the game.

It will however be an exciting season. The Under 16 squad is a very young squad and will be an exciting team to watch. As only Team Bath were successful in obtaining a place in Division One it will be great to see Team Jets face their old opposition in the coming months. Team jets travel for their first matches on Sunday 26th November when they play North Dorset and Lawn.

Kent County take their chances to beat Jets

8/10/2017

Team Jets lost their first away match today 55 v 42 against a well drilled Kent County.

Head coach Linda Andrews was quick to give credit to the victors, who are old rivals of Jets, as they were quick  to pounce on some basic errors from a side that are still finding their feet with new combinations.

Said Andrews: ‘Kent were a polished side and they stuck to their task well. For us the learning curve is certainly steep – but improvements have been made and in certain areas consolidated during passages of play. These will grow as the season goes on.

‘Libby [Rothwell] showed her speed on court and came out strong on centre passes, while shooter Emily Green [Jets player of the match] had a great game, her best yet and full of confidence.’

Tense finish to Jets opening win of the season

1/10/2017

It looked like Team Jets were going to have a comfortable win at half time today at their first home game and indeed first game of the season. With a strong start the home side took control, capitalising on errors from the visiting team who lacked flow and polish in their passing and movement.

Despite being up by 10 goals at half time it was the visitors who took the upper hand winning the third quarter 10 goals to 8, leabing the score overall at 30 v 22. Team Jets maintained their lead during the opening of the 4th quarter, however the crowd were left anxiously on the edge of their seats as TFC fought back and with minutes to go there was only one goal in it. With the scores all level and around 60 seconds left on the clock Team Jets managed to ensure the ball travelled to their end but it was after the hooter blew that GS Emily Green with nerves of steel managed to win the game with a pentaly pass or shot!

This opening match certainly showed the mental and pysical strength Jets have, something which we hope they can build on during the season.

Jets head coach Linda Andrews offered her explanations for the dramatic season opener: 'We were in a little bit of cruise control early on, we understood what we wanted. But it was hard for the girls like Josie [Le Masurier], Jenna [Meredith], Lauren [Devine] and Jacy [Brown]; they haven’t actually played netball since March.

‘It’s so difficult then to find a different level to fight back – even though we were in the lead I felt as though we were still trying to chase the game. But it’s never over until that final whistle blows.'
